are rating companies out there, a dozen or
more at least that have earned the public's trust a
thousand times over.
But somehow ratings don't exactly tell the whole story, or even the right story in some instances. I listen to them, don't get me wrong on that. But my final inspection is always the company web site.
Insurance companies are in business to make a
profit. When it comes to paying out tens of thousands of dollars
on an unexpected liability they could begin looking for an out.
Therefore, before you ask for a quote from any of them, make a
list of the times and reasons you have seen a physician in the
past year. If extra tests were scheduled on the “Just to Make
Sure You Don't Have -- X” principle, you will want to lay that
out on your application, just in case your doctor was wrong not
to have pursued the matter more diligently and you suddenly have
“X”. Pre-existing conditions that you know of are even more
important in the eternal scheme of things. Make sure you mark
all of them on the application. You will also want to have a
list of any drugs that were prescribed for you over the past
year. If you can remember the dosages, so much the better.
It wasn't 30 days after I had signed up with a
new insurance company that I experienced a massive stroke. Since
I had been completely honest in my application, the company paid
off everything without a quiver. It even volunteered that the
best rehab unit in the state should be used to get me back into
working order. If you use our form to locate the insurance
company right for you, or if you use an insurance broker, it is
wise to be as up-front as you can possibly be so you can be
helped to find the companies that will work with you, especially

The ones I go look at are already high on my list of favorites. Once I am there I look for things that indicate how warmly they will treat me when I come in battered and bruised in the battles of life. Little did I know or suspect at the time of signing on the dotted line that I would suffer a major, crippling stroke, just a few short weeks later. Most companies have a 30 day waiting period. This one didn't. Coverage started when I signed the app. My stroke happened somewhere less than 30 days later, and yet, I was still covered! Doctors were paid, nurses, rooms, tests, and food were all paid. Then the best therapists in the state were put to work in my behalf -- all because we asked that tiny little question -- "How soon am I covered?" You want to ask the little questions too. Every company out there has a "prescription drug program." But you need to look them in the eye and ask: "How much will my prescriptions REALLY cost me?" I asked that question and the right answer has saved me well, well over $10,000.00. My cost per prescription is a mere $5 for a whole month's supply. That is less than the VA charges me and I don't have to stand in line or foam at the mouth to get my prescriptions authorized and filled, either. When Marleen brought in my
absolutely essential medicine from the pharmacy
today is a good example of just how important this
"little" question is. When I shivered at how many
times the $5.00 for each prescription cost rang up for a month's
supply of life she read a little side note on just
one package: "Your Insurance Company has
saved you $291.93
on this order" If you have moved recently, if you have slid over into another age bracket, then checking out how well your health is protected is one of the smartest things you can do. And, like I said..
