"Of course it's awfully fascinating!" Wendy cried. "Peter, would you teach John and Michael to fly too?"

"If you like," he said indifferently, but she ran to John and Michael and shook them. "Wake up," she cried, "Peter Pan has come and he is going to teach us how to fly."

John rubbed his eyes. "Fly? Then I shall get up," he said. Then he glanced down at his feet and saw that he was on the floor already. "Hallo," he said, "I am already up!"

Michael was up by this time also, looking as sharp as a knife with six blades and an extra saw on the side, but Peter suddenly signed silence. Their faces assumed the awful craftiness of children listening for sounds from the grown-up world. All was as still as salt.

Then everything was right. No, stop! Everything was wrong. Nana, who had been barking distressfully all the evening, was quiet now. It was her silence they had heard.

NEVERLAND, the Story of Peter Pan is not a book for little children to read alone.  In the magical land of make believe, it never was a book for little children to read alone.  Instead, NEVERLAND was written for the older child -- and parents too -- that can still remember that time when make belief was very, very real.

Of course, there is much in the book that your young children will love, and you are invited to read it to them, after you have read it for yourself.
