New Work For

|Small children have suffered
from financial privation over the past few
years because the number of career-oriented tooth fairies has steadily
declined. It used to be that kids were satisfied with finding a dime or a
quarter under their pillow from the tooth fairy.
Savage inflation has made
value of a dime so pitiful it won't even buy as much as a penny used to. Low
tooth prices aren't
just caused by inflation though. Those Tooth Fairies still in the business have
experienced severe downturns in the resale market as well. Who needs a used
That may be about to change.
It is now known that primary teeth from young children are an excellent source for adult stem cells. In fact, research is showing primary teeth might soon be used to treat a growing number of severe illnesses including cancer and heart disease. A few Tooth Fairies have been lucky enough to uncover a new company that has been founded to provide preservation service for stem cells, using primary teeth plucked from beneath the pillow of young children.
If you want your loved ones to have a great smile that lasts a lifetime, start them off right, flossing good and eating light. When they face the public their clean smile may be their most valuable asset.

|The BioEden, Inc. Baby Teeth Cell Bank out of Austin Texas is the first
company of its kind anywhere in the world. According to President Jeff
Johnson, Stem cell research is the most promising path to curing many
severe diseases and disabling medical conditions. For stem cell therapy to
work, however, it is imperative that the source of the stem cells be
compatible with each recipient.
BioEden, is NOT a public cell bank like umbilical cord blood banks. What we do is isolate and store cells and then return the teeth to the original donor to keep just in case they are ever needed.
That makes sense. By maintaining immaculate control of storage for the cells you won't have to worry about communicable diseases, tissue rejection, or even having to undergo immunosuppressive therapy. If children ever have a need for the stem cells from their primary teeth they will get their own cells back -- and nothing else.
According to President Johnson, Dr. Songtao Shi, Principle Investigator of the Dental Biology Unit at the National Institute of Health identified adult stem cells in primary children's teeth back in 2003. Actually, it all started back in 2000 when Dr. Songtao Shi and Dr. Stan Gronthos discovered stem cells inside adult teeth. The next time his daughter lost a tooth, Dr. Shi was ready. He rushed her tooth to the lab and extracted the pulp. First he broke it apart into individual cells then placed those cells in a Petri dish with culture medium. After incubating the dish in a hot, humid environment -- with plenty of oxygen -- some of the tooth cells started to grow. Subsequent tests have shown that baby-tooth cells behaved like stem cells. They multiplied rapidly, they stayed alive in culture for months, and they could differentiate into nerve-like cells, dentin, bone, and fat cells.
he clutched the address in her left hand as she slowly slipped the toothbrush into low gear. "They really should have given me more training at flying one of these things," Emily muttered. "A toothbrush can be a dangerous machine at high speeds. Why just last week one of the tooth fairies made a bad turn too fast and lost both her right wings!" Emily glanced back to make sure both her right wings were still attached.
They were great for short range flying, and especially good for hovering and darting back and forth in a dark room. When it came to getting there fast, there was nothing to beat the zesty zoom of a powerful toothbrush.
Emily played with the turn signals. The left one was red and the right one was green. She supposed that the left one was red to remind the fairie driver that turning left was more dangerous. But then, right behind those buttons was the big one. It was labeled MASSIVE THRUST. "Touch that button and you'll be half way to the moon before you can catch your breath."
Yes, she remembered that warning very well!
In a flash of lightning Emily peered at the address -- 4128 Gleam Street. "Gosh, that is a long ways off!"

|Better news was coming. When transplanted into
mice, the cells grew into tooth like structures (although they lacked the
hard enamel covering of real teeth). The Progenitor cells discovered include
adiposites, osteoblasts, chondracytes, and mesenchymal stem cells. These
types of cells are all being investigated for their ability to
therapeutically treat many human diseases including heart disease, bone
regeneration, and most promisingly neuronal degenerative disorders such as
Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and even spinal cord injury.
However, it is critical that these cells be extracted quickly after the tooth falls out. Therefore, speed is of the essence. Enter the Tooth Fairy with a role more important than any held before in history because most children only have twelve teeth that can be used for this process. More importantly, not every tooth picked up by the Tooth Fairy will contain cells with this potential.
BioEDEN, is providing this assistance at an affordable price. Here's how it works. When your child's tooth begins to loosen, the tooth fairy can call us. We will send out a kit with processing instructions, and make arrangements to have the tooth transported to our facility in Austin, Texas. There the cells contained in the tooth will be removed and stored in a special process that keeps them viable for the future.
Even the old tooth fairies know that world health care is now moving toward personalized medicine where treatments are customized for each individual. The use of stem cells found in children's primary teeth to treat debilitating conditions is a significant step toward that goal. Best of all, this particular version of taking stem cells from children's primary teeth is being applauded instead of condemned.
says: The process is proving to be a morally non-controversial alternative
to the possibilities offered by embryonic stem cells.
