The State Capitol at N.E 23rd and Lincoln Blvd
Is the ONLY capitol with an oil well on the premises.

Absolutely NOBODY should miss this opportunity.. The very first place in Oklahoma City you'll want to go to is the NATIONAL COWBOY & WESTERN HERITAGE MUSEUM. 

If you live here, go NOW.  If you are visiting, put this on the very top of your list.  The museum is located at 1700 N.E. 63rd Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73111 Phone (405) 478-2250.

Admission prices, including tax, are: $8.50 for Adults - $7.00 for for people 62 and over - $4.00 Children 6 through 12 - while children under 6 get in for Free! There is plenty of FREE Parking.

Cameras of all kinds are prohibited except in a few designated areas. You can't even carry in a large bag. These days even little cell phones are eyed suspiciously. Now, artists CAN bring in sketching material, but groups of sketchers must schedule their visits in advance, and they must promise that all the sketches they make will be for their own private use.

Two hundred and twenty thousand square feet are designed to protect and preserve the rugged individualism and romantic spirit of the frontier. Remember, Bat Masterson wouldn't walk through here on a bet when Teddy Roosevelt was president. Works from Frederic Remington, Charles Russell and others are on display here.

Oklahoma was the first state to accept Native Americans as real people. For many Native American Tribes this was the final destination. Even Geronimo and some of his famous warriors spent their last days in Oklahoma. Little wonder then that the most popular display in the NATIONAL COWBOY & WESTERN HERITAGE MUSEUM is the eighteen foot sculpture: "The End of the Trail" by James Earle Fraser. Several other glory-sized works are on display.

Navigation in Oklahoma City
is relatively easy and extremely fast. 

You've got I-35 coming in from Dallas, I-40 coming in from Amarillo, 135 from Kansas, 44 from Tulsa.  Then you also have 270, 77, 240, and 235 pulsing through town like arteries.  Oklahoma is quite proficient at keeping the highways in good repair, and limiting the impact of downtime when roads must be repaired.  On top of that, the locals know how to lighten the load on the major roads by using numerous shortcuts and parallel routing.  You'll have to make up your own mind about whether to obey the speed laws or playing it safe and staying out of everyone else's way.

The Frontier City Theme Park is definitely on our schedule of must-sees.  One price fits all and entitles you to line up for every ride.

Then comes the huge Oklahoma City Zoo.  Openly acknowledged as one of the top ten zoos in the United States.  This is your opportunity to journey into a world where the wild meets the civilized. Where the loudest sound you hear may be the pounding of your own heart.

The Oklahoma City Zoo is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. The main entrance gates open at 9:00 A.M. Even though the gates close at 5:00 P.M. the exhibit buildings don't close until dusk is setting in thickly and the Zoo guests are invited to remain on the grounds until dusk.

The Canopy Food Court has a unique indoor dining experience with a rainforest atmosphere. There is enough room for three hundred people to sit down in the climate-controlled rain forest atmosphere. On the menu you'll find hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, soups and kids meals. Other specialized palates are accommodated on a daily basis. Other concessions on the grounds include the Safari Cafe and Savanna Terrace.

The zoo staff offers this suggestion for visiting: "Fall, winter and cloudy days are good times to visit the Zoo because it is less crowded and many of the animals are more active. If you do choose to visit on a hot summer day, try to come in the early morning or a few hours before closing."

There are two thousand exotic animals exhibited on 110 landscaped acres to enjoy. The Great EscApe features gorillas, orangutans and the ever popular chimpanzees in a natural setting. Four acres of preserve feature the Cat Forest/Lion Overlook that gives you an intimate look into the lives of lions, tigers, snow leopards and a variety of wild cats -- displayed in habitats similar to their native homes.

Parking is free at the zoo and admission prices are extremely low.
