A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is. When Jesus said, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect." he meant it.  Therefore, have the courage to be perfect.  People usually describe "perfect" only by its negative attributes -- isn't a drunk, isn't a coward, doesn't tell lies, etc.; God is perfect and, yes, he has all those sterling negative qualities, but his most important attributes are all positive -- forgiving, loving, wise, wonderful, etc..  ~  Lin Stone

  4. By starting now we will be light years ahead of those who decide they will repent "after having a little more fun."
  5. When Jesus said, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect." he meant it and if we intend to get there we'd better start right now.

It is a great mistake to test a prophet by his prophecies. Prophets may be looking into the future, into the past, afar off, or right where we stand because they look for answers and truth.  The real test of a prophet is do we know God's voice well enough to know it when we hear one of his prophets telling us what we need to hear?  ~  Lin Stone

***

It is sad to think how many of those telling points (from scientific discoveries) that turned some of our best students away from the gospel have turned out to be dead wrong!  ~  Hugh B. Nibley

Sharing the gospel is very much like sharing directions to the road to happiness.

**

Friends and strangers ask what makes me think the gospel is true.  My friends and many of the strangers are looking for help, to these I offer suggestions.  There are also strangers - and even friends - that are meanly determined to break my faith and destroy my confidence; to these I am often prompted to say, "How I know isn't important.  The real crisis is this - Why don't YOU know?

The road you are traveling is long and rocky.  It leads only to dark, empty pockets of bitterness and despair. When you finally realize the bitterness of betrayal, and curse yourself for having chased an empty bag there will come a tollgate and a gatekeeper in that road who asks in saddened voice - Why DON'T you know?  There are so many witnesses around you, so many promptings to return to where you went astray so that you could take the right turn and start off again, knowing that the gospel is true for it truly does have all the answers to all the right questions in life.

God expects you to know the right answer at each diverging fork in the road.  If God expects it of you then you were born with that divine spark in you that does know the answer, before the question is even framed for trembling lips to speak.  You can snuff out that spark with contemptuous pride, or you can fan it into a warm and nourishing flame.  Why don't you know know how?  WHY, aren't you happy?

The price of peace is righteousness.  Men and Nations may loudly proclaim 'peace, peace,' but there shall be no peace until individuals nurture in those souls those principles of personal purity, integrity, and character which foster the development of peace.  Peace cannot be imposed.  It must come from the lives and hearts of men.  There is no other way.  ~ Ezra Taft Benson

**

When it came time to part Abraham gave Lot the choice of which way to go; he knew that God would bless him even in dry and parched places.  Lot looked out and chose for himself that portion that was lush and green; he coveted the easier way to go.  RIGHT CLICK HERE for the printable document.

***

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. ~ John Adams

The Hebrews have done more to civilize men than any other nation. If I were an atheist, and believed blind eternal fate, I should still believe that fate had ordained the Jews to be the most essential instrument for civilizing the nations. ~ John Adams

I always consider the settlement of America with reverence and wonder, as the opening of a grand scene and design in providence, for the illumination of the ignorant and the emancipation of the slavish part of mankind all over the earth. ~ John Adams

***

Heaven will be no heaven to me if I do not meet my wife there.  Andrew Jackson

The foundations of society and of our government rests on the teachings of the Bible, that it would be difficult to support them, if faith in these teachings should cease To Be practically universal in this country. Calvin Coolidge

The foundation of our independence and our government rests upon our basic religious convictions. Calvin Coolidge

**

If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under. - Ronald Reagan

Leave the matter of religion to the family altar, the church, and the private school, supported entirely by private contributions. Keep the church and state forever separate. ~ Ulysses S. Grant

Hold fast to the Bible. . . . To the influence of this Book we are indebted for all the progress made in true civilization and to this we must look as our guide in the future. ~ Ulysses S. Grant

**

Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men." - Martin Luther King

**

While the laughter of joy is in full harmony with our deeper life, the laughter of amusement should be kept apart from it. The danger is too great of thus learning to look at solemn things in a spirit of mockery, and to seek in them opportunities for exercising wit.

***

Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough. ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

*

It used to be that God required a tithe and the poor were taken care of by letting them labor for their own welfare as Ruth did.  But wise and pompous philosophers said a King and a Government could take better care of us.  Today the poor have their livings handed to them and they riot for more; big business begs for handouts and politicians lurch into power on promises of what they will do for your neighbor with the money you earned.

***

Losing our way is easy when our daily decisions do not match our eternal destination.

***

Every time the news goes out that God is Dead, there are a thousand people pop up smart enough to lead us astray.

***

People talk about how you should forgive. Forgive those who have wronged you, or wronged themselves, or wronged others, and they speak of it as if it is some easy task. But, the truth is, it's hard to forgive. It may be one of the most difficult of kindnesses that we are able to bestow upon another person. Because forgiveness isn't something that just happens. It isn't just, "yes, I accept your apology". It's more like -- "I have found the capability somewhere within the deepest regions of my being to look past your faults and wrongdoings and to trust you again". And that sort of trust doesn't rebuild itself overnight. ~ Lynli Johnson

***

Ah, the family. The mechanism by which children are taught to obey authority.

The first thing divine interventionists promote that would take over the government is death of family leadership.  God is dead, religion is the opium of the people, etc.. and then their people starve and the dead are stacked up like cordwood.  Do we really want anarchy to rain down blood and horror on our streets?  God says, "Come and I will teach you."  Governments say, "Come and I will fleece you."

Are all fathers as good as Father Knows Best? No. and I admit that John Walton And Ward Cleaver are other figments of the imagination.  But let us review those shows where fathers did strive and remember they were not destined to be guides for the fathers and mothers of their day but to become  guides for the children to emulate when they become parents.  Even as they learn to adjust to reality, the desire for perfection shall creep forward another inch at a time.
