Travel Writing is easily the most exciting and personally rewarding kind of writing you can engage in. You get to do something you love, and you get paid for it. Once you have a few regular outlets for your work you can tell owners and managers of the places you want to write about that you are there to do a story and you will find the red carpet is rolled out for you.

The Travel Writer's Guide, by Gordon Burgett, taught me the basics of SELLING what you write before you go traveling. I have read the book all the way through about three times now, and when I take a long trip I take it along for company when I get time to rest.

The last time I went to do a story on Robbers Cave Oklahoma my health suddenly turned bad and I had to rest quite a bit. Another thing, the more experience (older) you get the better you can write and the more editors know you can write well for them. Stories that once took me a month to write can now be turned out in less than a day -- and my writing is better now.
